Our Story

1984

In 1984, Shaun McCardell started a small screen-printing company called Design Ink in Murray, Utah. Operating out of a storage unit and utilizing a single four-color hand press, the company printed approximately 50 shirts per day for small, local businesses. Shaun had a larger vision, however, and it wouldn’t be long before these humble beginnings began to give way to something much larger.

1995

As business grew, Lone Rock Clothing was officially created in 1995. A subsidiary of Design Ink, Lone Rock focused primarily on resort wear and sought to attract additional customers in the area – a mission it quickly accomplished. With Design Ink and Lone Rock operating in tandem, operations were moved to a 30K square foot facility in Murray, Utah. Printing was done via three automatic presses (compared to the single original hand press) and over one-million impressions were being done annually.

2000

The turn of the century saw considerable change for Design Ink. The addition of the first outside salesperson added significant business. It also brought a period of rapid expansion for Design Ink. Particular emphasis was placed on growing business in Park City and Moab. During this period, Lone Rock began working with companies such as The Utah Jazz, Park City Mountain Resort, Solitude Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort, Ski Utah and many others while maintaining strong relationships with existing clients. At the beginning of this decade Design Ink added embroidery to its ever growing arsenal of services.

2011

Now producing over four million impressions annually, Design Ink continued to grow rapidly. This growth was made possible in part by the addition of several new sales representatives who pushed the company to expand nationwide. Design Ink became known for quality and forward-thinking solutions to opportunities within the industry.

2016

By 2016, the Murray, Utah facility was not able to keep pace with the business, so Design Ink moved into 150,000 square feet of state-of-the-art space in West Jordan, Utah. This facility featured updated equipment and the cutting-edge technology necessary to improve efficiencies and capacity. This was required to keep up with demand that was now double 2011 levels.

2022

During the last six years, Design Ink started producing Socks, magnets, decals, coasters, and signs for their existing customers and identified excess capacity. Design Ink entered the promotional products Industry as a supplier of those products and the well-received D.I.Y. Tie-Dye T-Shirt Kits with custom printed logos. Business for Design Ink has increased tenfold over 1995 levels with over 10 million impressions annually.
